Laura Ichikawa was a Long Beach native and alumna of Long Beach State University. She was a lifelong athlete and a fierce advocate for women’s sports. Her crowning athletic achievement was a bronze medal in the 1994 Gay Games in NYC Division A of women’s volleyball. Laura was also an artist who designed logos and posters for a variety of sports organizations. Ironically many of these sports organizations now allow men to compete against women.
